2012, Week Fifteen

I can hardly believe I’ve been living back in California for a year. The weather right now feels the same as it did last year, and when I walk down the street, the feeling in the air, the sweet smells, the clearn, spring light, it all brings me back to when I arrived last April, so excited to finally be home.

We had another full week last week, and a busy weekend that involved hanging out with lots of adorable babies, so that was fun. For me at least. I do love the babies.

Also, I made bouillabaise!

Bouillabaise
Apr 8 – Bouillabaise! This is the first time I’ve cooked a fish soup, and I was intimidated for no reason. It was really quite simple. I used cod, scallops, and shrimp, plus a pinch of saffron and some chili flakes. I’ll try to share the recipe this week.

Stuffed peppers are good
Apr 9 – Stuffed peppers, with some turnips, couscous, bulgur, and some other things I don’t remember now.

Last jar of homemade ketchup
Apr 10 – I cracked open my last jar of homemade ketchup to serve with the meatloaf I made for dinner. I might have to replenish my supply.

The Tribune building
Apr 12 – I took this photo while I was walking to the post office last week. I looked up and the building just seemed so striking. It lost a little of its prominence in this iPhone photo, but oh well. I think it still captures my neighborhood pretty well.

Burger on baguette doesn't quite fit. But super tasty. At Barney's Gourmet Burgers.
Apr 14 – Barney’s Gourmet Burgers. I’m not a huge fan of the burger on baguette situation, but it was still a darn tasty burger.

I managed somehow to miss TWO days of photographs this week. I keep hoping that taking pictures daily becomes more habitual, but so far, no such luck. And that’s even with the majority of pictures coming from my phone, which I always carry (unlike my camera, which almost never leaves the house). As with nearly everything in life, all I can do is try, and try again. I’m starting a new project that might motivate me to take even more pictures, though, so hopefully these two projects will reinforce each other.

Despite some minor stresses here and there, this was a good week. And soon enough, Sean and I will be celebrating the year anniversary of moving into our awesome California apartment together. We have a special bottle of wine to open, and I’m planning a memorable meal. I can’t wait. Sometimes life is pretty rad.
