2012, Week Ten

Last weekend we went to Portland to visit friends. It was a great weekend, full of amazing food, lots of laughter, and a surprising amount of food tv. I think Sweet Genius might be the funniest cooking show I’ve ever seen. Before that, though, we had another great week in Oakland. Here are some highlights.

La Farine
Mar 4 – We finally made a stop at La Farine. It reminds me so much of the bakery in Santa Cruz where I worked in college. This Wheat Walnut Levain was amazing.

Enchilada Stuffed Shells
Mar 5 – Enchilada-style stuffed shells.

Chickpea Stew
Mar 6 – Saffron-scented Chickpea Stew

Reading Walden in Bed
Mar 7 – Reading in bed. Is it wrong to read Thoreau on a Kindle? I think he would not approve.

Cabbage and Pork Chops
Mar 8 – Cabbage and pork chops. We finally rejoined our CSA and got an enormous cabbage. I’m not sure what we’re going to do with it all.

Leaving on a Jet Plane
Mar 9 – At the airport.

Grilled fontina, mushrooms, and caramelized onions
Mar 10 – At Olympic Provisions in Portland. This sandwich could give my other favorite Portland sandwich, from Grand Central Bakery, a serious run for its money. Grilled fontina, mushrooms, and caramelized onions on Levain. Perfect. Their charcuterie plate was also pretty special.

I got really into Instagram this week. Once I found out you can follow all kinds of people and see some great photography, it became way more fun.

    1. Thanks! I’m having fun doing them, even though some nights I realize I haven’t taken a picture at all during the day and get a little frustrated with myself. 🙂
