This was a full week that involved seeing both a movie AND a play. This is unusual for us because usually we’re hermits who really love our couch. We even had my brother over for dinner. Socializing! Amazing.
Mar 25 – We went to see The Hunger Games, and when we came home, I made this lamb stew. If you haven’t read The Hunger Games, do it. If you haven’t made lamb stew, you should do that, too.
Mar 26 – We got beautiful Chioggia beets from our CSA, and I pulled out a heretofore untouched cookbook and found this recipe for Beet, Avocado, and Fennel salad. It was a magical salad. And once again, thank you, Eat Your Books, for helping me get more use out of my cookbooks.
Mar 27 – I made a bad filtering decision with instagram. But this dinner wasn’t bad: short grain rice, sauteed mushrooms, cannellini beans, tomatoes, and thyme.
Mar 28 – Thai Chicken Satay Pasta. I made this when my brother came to dinner. It was good! I’ll post the recipe later this week. You will want to try this.
Mar 30 – Doh! I skipped a day AGAIN. Thursday was a good day, too. But on Friday, I made this oh-so-easy Asparagus tart. I’ll be writing soon about the wonders of puff pastry, so if you’ve ever felt intimidated by it, check back later in the week. It’s not so hard.
Mar 30, again – I feel guilty for skipping a day, so I’m sharing two Friday pictures. Sean took this one. We had a lot of butter, in the form of puff pastry, on Friday night. I don’t feel guilty about that at all.
Mar 31 – Saturday we went to see Pirates of Penzance at the Berkeley Playhouse (yeah, what?). But before that we had an indulgent and spicy BBQ dinner at Everett & Jones in Jack London Square. Super saucy, so much meat. So worth it. I don’t feel guilty about this, either.
