We are halfway through this year, and, well, I’m not doing much better at remembering to fully document my life. I think some of my photographs are getting better, but I still have a lot to learn about light. That’s why I am REALLY looking forward to the Joy the Baker and Tracy Shutterbean Food Photo workshop I’m going to in just a few weeks. In the meantime:
July 1 – I made salad dressing, and took pictures in some really unflattering light. Unflattering to shallots, anyway.
July 2 – Even better, I made crepes, and filled them with apricots, raspberries, and maple cream. An excellent breakfast option.
July 3 – Continuing in the “I’m not inspired to cook” theme of the last month, we went out to dinner at Mua and ordered many delicious things. This Crispy Tofu was one of those things.
July 4 – On the 4th of July we went to a cook out. It was a wonderful gathering full of friends and beer and great sausages. And I took not a single photograph.
July 5 – I made up for it the next day by busting out my photo lights and making a fresh salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and feta. It was iconic summer food.
July 6 – MY BIRTHDAY. Whoot. We went out to dinner at Bocanova, and every single dish was fantastic. This deconstructed tamale was a standout.
July 6 – Bonus: More from Bocanova. Perfectly crafted deviled eggs with Dungeness Crab and a smoky aioli (swoon), that pork tamale, and a bowl of Curry Goat Stew that blew our little minds. We also had some buttery, salty shishito peppers and black bean feijoada. This meal was a real treat.
July 7 – And on Saturday I made a cake. Well, on Friday and Saturday, really. It was quite an endeavor. But so, so worth it.
It was a full week, and I’m still struggling to slip back into my routine. My mind has been whirling with goings on and gatherings and meals out, and it has all been so fun. But I really miss my little kitchen.
I hope your summer has also been full of good times. What did you do for the fourth? Have you been grilling and eating tomatoes and peaches and getting sandy and sunburned? I sure hope so.
everything looked lovely, and of course the cake made my mouth water……
I am so jealous that you get to meet Joy the Baker! I can’t wait to hear about this workshop.
I’m excited for the workshop, and to meet two of my favorite bloggers. Should be a fun day. I’ll tell you all about it!
