2012, Week Twenty-Nine

Last week Oakland decided it wasn’t summer anymore. The temperatures dropped, and Friday was grey and downright cold. Oh fickle, fickle Bay Area.

Our week started out with a cookout at Roberts Park, welcoming some friends back to the lower 48 (they have been living in an isolated area of Alaska, and are now heading to Vermont). It was great to see friends, and to spend some time swooning over a very cute little one:

Little Emilia
July 8 – Who knew a pen could be so exciting?

Hardboiled eggs
July 9 – Monday night I made panini stuffed with green beans and hardboiled eggs. I love panini. There will definitely be more of them in our futures.

New cubicle
July 10 – I moved into a new cubicle space at work. It’s a little bigger, and a lot quieter. I hate cubicle-land, but this is an improvement, at least. Someday I’ll have a real office again.

Fish Tacos!
July 11 – Fish tacos for dinner! This is quickly becoming one of my favorite week night meals. So quick to make, tasty, and healthy. Love. Want the recipe? I wrote about fish tacos a few years ago. You can vary this recipe in many ways, but this is a good place to start.

Banana bread snack
July 12Banana Bread makes an excellent snack.

Burgers at Kwik-way
July 13 – On Friday, I met up with a bunch of lovely ladies to see Magic Mike. I loved the movie, and I also loved the burger I got from the Kwik-Way before the movie. Yay for the Kwik-Way!

Rosamunde Beer Garden
July 14 – On Saturday, we discovered that our beer garden is back! Oh happy times. Sadly, the sun had disappeared behind the buildings by the time we made it over there, and it was kind of cold. But we are hopeful for sunny Saturday beer garden afternoons in the future. (There was also a fundraiser gathering for our House Representative, Barbara Lee, next day to the beer garden. It was a funny contrast, all the expensive cars being valet parked on this tiny street lined with Auto Body shops. Our neighborhood is definitely one that is, as they say, in transition.)

This year is passing by so quickly! How is it possibly mid-July already? We have some fun stuff planned in the coming weeks and months, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.

What have you been up to this summer? Is it properly summer where you are? I hear the rest of the country is, like, hot or something? I don’t know, the Bay Area is weird. How are you spending your sunny days?

  1. Any time you are questioning if it is really summer, come and visit us! You will probably want to run back home. Last week we reached 121 one afternoon. . . .
    love you 🙂
