My Seven Links

You thought the sporadic posting was bad before? I’m sorry folks, it’s going to be worse for the next few weeks, because, you see? I broke my finger. It’s just my pinky finger, and thankfully, it’s my left hand. But I can’t really do anything. I can barely type, and I can’t quite cook, either. Sean has been graciously and admirably handling the kitchen situation for us for the last two weeks, and will be for the coming two (unless I get way better at one-handed maneuvering).

I miss cooking, even though I’ve been eating pretty well with Sean in charge. And I was just starting to get really excited and creative again, since we signed up for a new CSA. I just love what a mystery box of produce does to inspire me. I hope that is enough to tempt you to come back in a few, when I’m nicely healed up and handling the pots and pans again.

In the meantime, I saw this fun meme over at Croque-Camille’s place, and I thought I’d spend some time digging around the archives and finding what some of you may have missed.

Most Beautiful Post

Bagels, resting

My little kitchen in Walla Walla provided some pretty fantastic light, and let me take a lot of fantastic pictures. But these pictures of my homemade bagels might be my favorites.

Most Popular Post

Chicken Florentine

Without a doubt, my post on chicken florentine is the most popular. Which is kind of sad, because the photographs are horrible. But the recipe? The recipe is really good. And I guess it’s the food that ultimately matters, right? I think I need to make this again, and fast…

Most Controversial Post

Bowl o' Goodness

There’s not a lot of controversy on this blog. Every now and then someone will tell me I’m clearly very wrong about something, but for the most part, no. However, this post about an unusually-named casserole, Johnny Marzetti, has caused some ruffling of feathers. Most of the “controversy” comes from people who are sure it contains some other ingredients than those I mentioned. Also, from people who watch Gilmore Girls even more obsessively than I. It’s kind of scary.

Most Helpful Post

Lobster Ravioli

This one is kind of unusual: I get a ton of hits on this very random post about Trader Joe’s lobster ravioli. I made an incredibly simple cream sauce for this ravioli, and as it turns out, people wanted that. I get all kinds of people looking for “trade joes lobster ravioli sauce recipe.” It kind of cracks me up, because again, terrible pictures, and the sauce is as easy as can be. But I’m glad people find what they need when they need it.

A Post Whose Success Surprised Me

Tuna and white bean sandwich

This one took me by surprise because it’s so simple and basic, but it was picked up by Slashfood. My recipe for tuna and white bean salad sandwiches couldn’t be easier, and, bonus, they are healthy and delicious. Win!

Post That Didn’t Get the Attention It Deserved

Mustard on Pizza is also Genius

I love making pizza. I spent a lot of time perfecting my technique and recipes, and I compiled all my best and most creative ideas in one post, The Top Five Pizzas in the KI Kitchen. I thought the people would love it, but nothing. It just does not get the love. Let’s try to fix that, shall we?

The Post of which I am Most Proud

Braised Chicken with Scarlet Runner Beans

I think it might have to be a post that points away from my little blog, as sad as that is. But this one make me happy because I concocted the recipe entirely from my own crazed little mind, AND I got paid for it, during my brief stint writing for the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin’s food and wine blog. This braised chicken with beans was really freakin’ delicious. I should probably copy that recipe in case the tiny Walla Walla newspaper ever goes out of business and it disappears (not that that would ever happen…)

Hope that’s enough to tide you over while I heal. If you have a favorite I didn’t mention here, please let me know what it is. And if you write a food blog, tell me what your favorite post is on your own blog.
